January 2018 | Veteran Of The Month

Lemuel S.
Lem S. is a 3-year U.S. Army veteran, serving his country proudly from 2013-2016.   Following in the footsteps of his older brother, “I joined because I felt a pull to do something greater than myself…”, said the Specialist (E-4). Lem was an outstanding Motor Vehicle Operator, serving the duration of his enlistment in Germany, but as he transitioned from Active Duty in October of 2016, like many of us, Lem began to experience difficulty in adjusting to life as a civilian.
One of the largest hurdles that a transitioning service member experiences, is often finding suitable employment after the military.  Based on a variety of reasons such as training, education, lack of available jobs in their area, etc., a service member can often go months, and sometimes years until they find a job where they can be successful.  This is exactly what happened to Lem.
Thankfully, Lem has recently found a great job in the Greensboro, NC area, and his circumstances are starting to turn in his favor.  Even though he’s going through a tough period in his life, his dedication to being the sole caregiver for his mother and his disabled brother has never wavered.   His selfless and humble spirit, combined with his motivation and determination is the epitome of “Army Strong”, and we at Miles of Giving are proud to salute you as Veteran of the Month!  HOOAH!
